Mission: Raise Awareness (AIDS, Human Trafficking)

The Rotary Club of Dunwoody has a strong history of providing Awareness campaigns in the local schools. During 2014-2015, RCD has continued the school assembly program for HIV/AIDS and has worked with the Rotarian/Human Trafficking Advocate Dave McCleary to develop a program with the innovation of adding an Awareness about Human Trafficking.

The idea for this "merger" came from six (6) passionate Rotarians: Charlie Auguello, Dottie Toney, Karen Williams, Phillip Bullard, Helen Sempira and Pavittar Safir. They were inspired by work being done by Rotary and organizations like Wellspring Living. Wellspring is the beneficiary of a $2,000 grant by our club that recognizes each of our weekly speakers with a donation to help young women recover from being sexually trafficked. Weekly Awareness.

By blending the AIDS Awareness program with Awareness on Human Trafficking, the message will have the potential to be heard by over 10,000 students, which was the approximate number of students reached in 2014. Dunwoody Rotarian Dr. John Carr serves as coordinator for DeKalb County and Dunwoody Rotarians Dottie Toney Ransom and Louise Barden serve as a Metro Atlanta coordinator and RCD Club Coordinator, respectively.

RCD sponsors six schools at $300.00 per assembly. Each assembly requires a minimum 3-hour volunteer commitment for each program presented. By partnering with AID Atlanta and End Human Trafficking, the sustainability of this program has increased significantly. 250 hours was spent on this project this year and RCD also supports an Anti-Drug Awareness campaign at DHS in the amount of $1500.
